Most would think a Barrett M-82 defined "huge". Others a 105 or 155 Howitzer. Most define a FAL as a .308 rifle.

    Edit:

Expensive option: Ask these guys to build you one.

Inexpensive option: Join the 82nd Airborne and qualify to be issued one.

I would consider it smaller than a standard AR, not the M4, but it has a slightly different design with regard to its piston. If I could afford one, I'd seriously think about picking one up.

The one in the picture is a M-14 set up as a sniper rifle.
As far as the Sig, it is about the same size as a AR, and smaller then the M1-A. Remember the Sig&AR are 223, where the M1-A and FAL are 308cal.

HI, I've handled the Sig and it's about the same size as the AR, nothing I noticed made me say man is this thing big or this is really compact. However much smaller than an M14, they are not quit the same type of rifles.

Like the others have said the Sig 556 and the M4 style AR are about the same in size. The Sig is heavier then the AR, but not by a lot. The Sig and the AR fire the .223/5.56mm round.

The M1A and FAL are in .308/7.62mm rifles. The one in the pic is just a standard length M1A/M14 ($1500) in a Sage EBR stock ($750), GDI scope mount ($350), not sure on the scope (probably ($1000-1500), a Harris bipod with rail adapter ($125) and some kind of high end flashlight . Not a cheep set up, but very very cool. Then with current ammo price you are looking at $0.45 or more per round unless you have a good stash somewhere.

For me I prefer standard stocks on the full length M1A. I have an EBR stocked rifle but it is in the 18" "scout" version.

Yes this one is the Scout with 18/18.5" bbl, not sure on actual length. Mine has the Smith Vortex flash hider on it reducing the the length just over an inch vs the standard break.

I am not sure the accuracy difference but I know my 22" "target" version is more accurate then this one but it is scoped. On the M14 forums it seems that they say the Scout is good to the 600 yard range but if you are shooting over that then the standard length is better.

The EBR set up like I have is ment to be a hard hitting more compact weapon then the standard version of the M1A. When you compare things you need to compare them to what you plan on using them for. If you plan on taking this gun out and shooting 1000 yard matches the Scout EBR is NOT what you want. If you are looking for compact rifle for going using in a mostly urban areas a full length rifle may not be your best choice.

Comparing the EBR to the Standard or "target" versions is like comparing the M4 to the A2 to the heavy bbl target AR's. They all have a "best" roll. Some can be used for more then one thing, but some will do each job better.

    UPDATE:

Just so you know in the ATE forums the topics get locked at 10 post.

If you are looking for more of a long range target gun I dont think I would pic the Sage. Dont get me wrong I like the Sage, but I think there are better set ups. For what you are trying to do I would go with a standard rifle and a Troy MCS or JAE-100 stocks. Troy seems to be the winner between all 3 but I liked the Sage better for my set up.

600 yard to 1000 sounds right. I requested info from sage about the kits so now its time to figure out which one to get.
