Wanting to buy a EOTECH sight but can someone tell me when putting this on a flat top AR15 does the red dot line up on the front sight post to sight these in? Don't quite understand what keeps the front sight from blocking the view when using one of these can someone tell me how this works?? Or do they sit high enough to look over top of the front sight?? Thanks Mark

You might have to use a riser under it.

There are many different ways to mount the eotech. I have mine mounted flat on the rail and the front sight does obstruct my view (it is meant to be a CQB sight so you should be able to still see the target); I plan on getting a flip up front sight to correct this problem. As far as sighting the scope I am pretty sure you adjust the dot independent of the front sight. I vaguely remember that with the M68 guys would put the red dot above the front sight post before they went to the range. This was called "Lollypop" and if remember it is a starting point for getting the rifle zeroed (I spent most of my time behind the M145). I have never tried this technique with an eotech. I also found a link that has a bunch of different pictures showing different ways to mount (I didn't read the text). Hope this helps.

If you want your optical center & your iron sight center to align, buy iron sights that "co-witness"; this means that, should your batteries die, you can flip up your iron sights & just look through your optical sight to aim.

YHM makes a riser just for the Eotech, allows you to cowitness your iron sights in the lower third of the Eotech:

    YHM-220
Redesigned for increased accuracy and improved clamping power! This mount elevates your EOTech .300 inches allowing you to clearly look through the center of the Eotech and still use your iron sights in the lower third of the Eotech window. Made from aircraft quality aluminum and hardcoated to military specifications:
