I have a m2 artillery compass in its green plastic holder marked M19 I was wondering how much it is worth. There should be a black serial number plate on the front that has been removed but other than that it is in good condition. It has all the original green paint on it and it is made of aluminium

Well, there was the WW II M-2, and the current day M-2. Basically, a compact surveyor's insrument- compass, marked in degrees and mils, level, plumb, etc. Have seen used ones go for $50, the new ones list at about $250. Learned years ago to tie compass to body after having to pay for one military issue compass (WHAT ?!? They are HOW MUCH ?!?!)

M2 Artillery compass huh? Oh Yeah the ones that if you put them in the case backwards and try to snap the case, you crack the mirror. We had a Lieutenant in OBC who actually found a glass shop in Lawton who could remake the mirror. Those things were a pain in the backside. I never did use the mirror. Supposedly it allowed you to read the bearings off the compass without shifting the compass. I don't know anyone who actually used it that way.
