I have someone interested in purchasing this rifle but cannot find a serial number anywhere on it..This person wants to purchase it under a C&R FFL..My question is -HOW CAN I DETERMINE THE YEAR OF MANUFACTURE WITHOUT A SERIAL NUMBER???? Thanks

    Greg,

You can not determine the exact year of manufacture. As I mentioned in your previous post about this rifle, it was manufactured sometime between December of 1937 and December of 1963.

Thanks Bert, The only reason I wanted to know is because the person interested in purchasing it would like to use a C&R FFL to do so, and he cannot use it unless the rifle is 50 years old or more (so he said), I don't know if this is true or not, so he needs to know when teh rifle was made to determine if the FFL could be used.

According to George Madis production of the Winchester Model 69 ceased in 1963.

That person is correct... in order to be able to use a Type 03 FFL (Curio & Relic) for a purchase, the fiream in question must be either at least (50) years-old, or be listed on the BATFE's approved listed. The Winchester Model 69A is not on the BATFE list. Because the last 69As were made in 1963 (45-years ago), you can not positively determine if your rifle is (50) years old yet. The safe (and wise) thing to do is require that it be transferred through a Type 01 FFL.
