Hi there, I have some confusion Identifying an old .22 Cal solid frame pistol that I fixed for a friend. It is stamped as a Hopkins & Allen XL Double Action in .22 Cal. 7 shot. My catalogue has it as a Melwin & Hubert Manufacture with Hopkins & Allen stamped on it.
Does anyone know anything else and an approximate Mfg. Date?

Here's what the Merwin & Hulbert Association says: "Do not be misinformed about the makers of Merwin, Hulbert & Co. Firearms. Some say they were made by Hopkins & Allen. The facts say, they were made by 50% owners of Hopkins & Allen Co. ( M-H & Company ) with a seperate idenity in the Hopkins factory, as per the Merwin & Hulbert specifications."

Most of the large 44s are marked with both names but most of the smaller just with H&A name.
