If I was to move down to a 223cal rifle, I'd probably select the 22-250 cartridge to launch it from.
The bullet weight I'd lelect would depend on the size/type of game that I was hunting, and also on what that that rifle prefers to launch.

or a house gun, if it dosn't fit in one hand), than it's going to have a 3/4" hole in the muzzle. IOW either a handgun or a shotgun.

Depends on what animals you are going to be shooting. I would suggest for varmints up to coyotes using a 40 grain plastic tipped bullet like the V-max by Hornady, or the Ballistic Tip by Nosler. If you are looking for deer sized game, the 45 grain Barnes TSX will get the nod as well as the 60 grain Nosler partition. I use WW748 almost exclusively for the propellant for my 223.

For self defence, DO NOT reload. If you ever have to use them, the DA will make you look like the blood thirsty villan. Get yourself some Hornady TAP rounds.

Don't forget the twist rate of the barrel also has bearing on the bullet weight.

Oh yeah, also I like either Win 748 powder(25.0 gr powder with a 55 gr bullet) or Hogdon H335 powder (24.0 gr powder with a 55 gr bullet).

Hey there Eternal, what is your opion on the H335 in the AR? I've heard it is a little dirty compared to other ball powders.

Sorry so late with reply Mobuck, but I feel win 748 is cleaner than H335, but I havn't had any exceptionally bad/dirty experiences with H335, and it shoots very well for me.

    About 26 -27 grains of 748 and a 55 grain SP bullet.
