AUG: feedback on different manufacturers

I want to buy an AUG again, and now there seems to be various options on offer:

1) Steyr: pre-ban, original austrian versions imported into US

2) Microtech STG-556: made in USA based on original design. (www.msarinc.com/stg556.html)

3) TPD USA: another made in USA based on original design. Not made under license, just copied (www.tpdusa.com/categories.php)

Do any of you have experience with the USA copies of the original Steyr design? Things like reliability, jamming, robustness, etc.

I used to own the original pre-band Steyr AUG and though it was brilliantly simpled and it never jammed on me once. But going price is around $4000, versus nearly half that for the US copies. Wonder how the copies compare?

I bought an FN FS2000 Standard carbine instead of a Microtech after finding that:

    1) The standard STG-556 carbine was really butt heavy and balanced poorly for me (the FS2000 balanced and handled pretty well).

    2) I like the FS2000 Standard Carbine's 1.6X optic much better than the standard carry handle optic on the STG-556.

As a lefty I was interested in both and was disappointed that STG-556 did not live up to Mullin's review of the AUG that commented on how well balanced it was. In fairness, the standard STG-556 barrel is a 16" length while the AUG/SA was 20". The STG-556 has a 20" option.
