30 carbine Lake City Value?

Friend offered me an unopened tin of Lake City 30 Carbine ammo today. He said it was on clips and in bandos. Thinks it has 600 rds. in tin. Does this sound like the correct number of rounds? What would be a fair price to offer him?

Unless there's something special about the Lake City - in other words it's not just plinking ammo - 600 rounds equals 12 boxes of 50 rounds per box. I'd feel anything in the $10.00 to $12.00 per box range is OK, anything above not soo good and I'd pass above $14.00 per box.

Anything below $110.00 for the 600 and I'd grab the whole lot.

    Just my rough guess.

The qty. will be listed on the can and if it's 600rds. it will say so. I've seen a lot of it at shows but in individual boxes so didn't pay much attention to it. If you buy 600 rds. at commercial prices you will pay around $120.00.

I seem to recall there was some LC marked corrosive ammo coming in from Korea though.

USGI carbine ammo, especially in spam cans, has become quite scarce ---- & sought after. I would expect it sell for $.50/round on the open market.

Between friends, I think $.30/round would be a fair price. At least, I'd be glad to pay that to a friend.

No corrosice ammo was loaded in the US in .30 carbine cal. This was due to the difficulty of cleaning the gas piston. I suppose the Koreans could have reloaded LC brass with corrosive primers but doubt if that is what is in question.

I think he is referring to the ammo the Chinese manufactured to look like LC 52. If you know what to look at you can tell the difference between this and authentic Lake City. Yes the fake LC the Chinese manufactured was/is corrosive.
