Do I have to pay tax when buying a gun from out of state. I am in Oklahoma and am buying a gun from Virgina. I have never had to taxes on out of state sells before but Old Dominon Sports Store is trying to charge me tax. They said they have always charged taxes.

Since your dealer has a close relationship with the OK tax authority, it's likely that he knows what he is talking about. The only way you can verify that is to contact your state government agency.

The guy is not collecting tax. He is padding the transfer fee, if he is trying to collect tax on the sale price.
The transfer fee itself is taxable. The sale price of the gun is also taxable, but it is between you and your State Comptroller.
I assume Old Dominion is in the Commonwealth of Virginia? Some sellers do charge tax on outgoing sales. Even out of state sales. The only thing you could do is write to that state and ask to see if Old Dominion is reporting tax collections on out of state sales. Or write to Oklahoma is the store is in that state and ask them.
Yo should not have to pay a tax on a transfer fee. That is a professional fee. Just like you wouldn't pay tax for hiring a lawyer or an accountant. They pay that tax in their income tax or however they get taxed by their state. Sales tax is on goods, not services.
I'm in agreement with Nunn in that this seems to be a way to pad a transfer fee. Which in my opinion is stupid. People get madder over a sneaky way to wrangle a dollar than if you just upped the price five bucks.
havent you ever seen those small prints where it says I/E:...."OK. RESIDENTS 4.5% SALES TAX."
its never from the sender. tax is at the purchase store.
it would be like ordering bullets from speer and they charge you tax to have them send the package to your gun store, only to have your gun store tax you again.
its called double jeopardy.
