I have 2 rem 760's in 30.06 one has a sliding button on the mag that you have to push forward to allow the pump action to move forward.

The one with the button is much more difficult to slide.

What is the advantage or disadvantage to this button on the slide.

thanks in advance

p.s. Is this a good pig gun for a 1st timer or should I take something bigger like a marlin 444 or a model 88 in .308

The magazine with the button on it is actually for the 742 semi outomatic rifle. The 760 should not have this feature. The magazine for the 742 is designed to hold the bolt open after the last shot and the button is to release the bolt and let it go ahead. While either will work in the other model as you know they do not work well. Your local dealer should have the correct 760 magazine.

As 41 said the mag is for a 742. The button does nothing for the 760.
As a gun for hunting pigs, you could not find a much better caliber. Get some 150 or 165gr. soft point ammo and go hunting.

Mormonb welcome th the forum. You some how have gotten a 742 magazine in your 760. Easy to fix...still can buy 760 30-06 magazines.

actually the magazines are common for the 760, Six, and 7600 pumps without the bottom slide. The ones with the slide are for the semi auto 740, 742, Four, and 7400's. Either one will work in either gun, just as stated, the one is for a bolt hold open on the semi.
