A friend of mine is bringing over a Mossberg 5500 for me to look at. He says it's jamming alot. I know there were some issues with this gun, and that they discontinued it a long while ago.

Any ideas of what to look for when I start tearing it down?

Try Not Clean, bad lube like WD-40, too thick oil/grease/mixed with residue and dirt.

Be careful when taking apart, power spring, end nut placement.

You can Google the takedown / cleaning procedure.

If this is the model I am thinking(semi aut gas operated), clean the action out with a good spray cleaner or brake cleaner, and lightly lube it with Rem oil. Next clean/degrease the outer mag tube, spring, and gas piston, and lightly lube with rem oil making sure the gas ports in the barrel are clear. Replace the factory O-ring with a viton on if you can find one at a local gunshop. Lastly make sure it is reassembled correctly. I have had to do this for a few people who had problems with buying them from a MART where they were not prepped from the factory box, took them apart because they were jamming, and they got put back together wrong.
