hi, does anybody know how to make a good makeshift silencer for a rimfire rifle, that doesnt require drilling?

This may sound a bit naive, but a friend wants to know if it's possible to have a silencer put on his rifle so his gun doesn't scare off other game for the others in hunting party if he shoots his first. I told him it would look too much like a poacher gun to be legal, but anyone else have any advice for him as to whether it's physically possible or legal?

He can purchase a silencer, but he'll have to jump through a few Federal hoops first.

BTW, check your local hunting regs, it may be (most likely is) illegal to hunt with a silencer, even if you own it legaly

    Very solid info.

Very few states allow hunting with suppressors. I'm lucky enough to live in one of them[:D]

From your profile I see that you are in Kansas. I just looked over the KS regs and didn't see anything that specifically prohibited the use of a suppressor for deer and elk.

My suggestion would be to contact your local Game Warden and ask them if it is legal.

Oh, BTW, I have shot plenty of deer that were not alone and the shot did not * the other deer. They really can't tell where it is coming from. I have also watched deer that were close to me while the guys on the lease next to mine (about 300 yards) were blazing away. The deer under my stand didn't even flinch. So, I would tell your buddy not to worry about it. It isn't worth the $200 plus cost of the suppressor.

Another reason your friend might as well keep his money: a suppressor does nothing to mute the sharp supersonic crack of a bullet, which is all a deer will hear if the bullet passes close by. Besides, HandgunHTR is correct; many deer don't * at the sound of a shot, anyway.
