Winchester 670A Bolt Is Locked, How to Unlock It ?

Hello,

Really need help here...

As I was cleaning my Winchester 670A rifle, I pulled the bolt out, pushed the little piece with the spring on the very rear of the bolt, and turned the very rear part with the safety on it, as it turned half way it just locked in place, seems its stuck now in the fired mode, or so I think and now it will not unlock.
(cant even insert it back into rifle)

Surely theres an easy trick to unlock it but beats the heck out of me...

Please help.

Thank you.

    timeinspace,

If I'm understanding you correctly, the cocking piece has fallen into the cocking cam on the rear of the bolt. If this is true, all you need to do is capture the bottom of the cocking piece in a vise and carefully pull the bolt body away while turning it to the cocked position.

    Best.

    hi,

you may be right in your description, but there is nothing to capture in a vice, as there is not enough of a piece to hold on to.

basically it appears that the bolt is now in the fired position and the rear part with the safety is turned to the left(by me) and is just locked in place and will not go back right.

in this position the bolt will not even fit into the rifle.

there has to be a simple way to undo this evil...

    please help.

    thank you.

    I answered your question here.
It is a simple fix that does not need nothing more than a dowel rod or a flat screw driver.

No vice needed nor anything else.

Notice the [1/4 in. slot] in the bolt channel that's in the back of the receiver? Now, notice the corresponding piece of metal on the bolt that is supposed to fit into the slot? Your goal is to push that protruding piece on the bolt rearward, and clockwise (as viewed from the rear of the bolt)...back up that ramp on the back of the bolt that's at an angle. It's difficult. I had to use the edge of my wooden table to push it back. Don't give up the ship!! Best, Joe
