whats the proper spacing when installing scope blocks, say, center to center???

    There is no one "right" spacing.
    It depends on the geometry of the rifle and where you CAN put a base and the fineness of adjustment you want. The adjustments are in absolute distance on a micrometer scale, one click is .0005" at the mount, so the farther apart the bases are, the smaller the angular change.
    From an old Unertl chart of base spacing versus MOA per click:

    14.4 inches 1/8 MOA
    12.6 inches 1/7 MOA
    10.8 inches 1/6 MOA
    9.0 inches 1/5 MOA
    7.2 inches 1/4 MOA
    5.4 inches 1/3 MOA

    Most target rifles were drilled and tapped at 7.2" or 10.6" spacing.
