I think this is military surplus. The case and the bullet are both the same gold color.
On the top left of the case it says "9mm"
On the top right of the case it says "68"
On the bottom of the case is a triangle.

Who made it, is it any good, is it non corrosive?
Thanks.

I shot some of this in the early 90's. I believe if I remember correctly it is Egyptian. I don't know if it is corrosive as I clean my guns right after I shoot them. It shot fine with no misfires.

The above answer is probably correct on the origin, if so the ammo is corrosive primed.

Not sure about their differences in case, bullet and primer colors, but what you have is possibly Norinco. They used the triangle marking for many years on various calibers.

Are you sure that's a 68 and not an 89?

    Hi,

If these headstamps match your cartridges it looks like the award goes to Txs. It is hard to discern but the date is actually 1989 and not 1968. The orientation of the headstamp is with the "delta" at 10 o'clock or the date at 6 o'clock, then the date becomes clear.

Both these headstamps are made by NORINCO which stands for Chinese Northern Industries. This was ammunition made for export to the US and other countries.

Heavyiron, you have got it. It is the top photo.
So I take it the manufacture date was 1989.

Is it any good? Is is corrosive?

    Hi,

It is like any other Asian import these days. If you place a magnet against the bullet it will probably be attracted to a mild steel core with copper washed steel jacket. It is probably noncorrosive, but, to be cautious you might want to run hot water through the barrel after shooting. It will probably deliver mediocre accuracy. I think the gold color you are referring to is copper washed steel which is how the Chinese (among others) made them then.

I bought one of the Chinese Norinco rifles back then and ran thousands of Norinco 7.62x39 through the weapon and seldom cleaned it, so that ammunition was noncorrosive. The bullet and case were both copper washed steel and cost about $50.00 for a 500 round case.

The date is definitely 1989 and is the period of time when dealers were selling Chinese Norinco SKS's with chrome lined barrel by the crate load for about $90.00 per rifle.

    Hope this helps.

Ok, I suspected this might be Chinese mfg but the 68 date had me confused. The ammo is brass case, reloadable and non-corrosive. I have shot quite a bit of this ammo when it was available years ago. It could be either 115 or 124 gr.

The red primer sealer on 7.62x39 Norico ammo means non-corrosive primer, at least for the 7.62x39.
