Browning semi auto 22 takedown question

Hi,
I am currently considering buying another Browning semi-auto 22 takedown.
The serial number of the one I have is xxxxxT47. I am in contact with 3 different people, none of whom are selling on an auction site, that have one of these rifles to sell.
Every one of them has a serial number or xxxxxT47. This can't be a coincidence.
Forum member rufe-snow clued me in on the fact that Miroku was not very consistent in assigning serial numbers and the T47 almost surely means mine was made in 1974, the manufacture date being reversed to "47" instead of "74" for some reason.
My question is why are there so many "T47" rifles out there? Did they just make a ton of them in 1974? "T47" serial numbers seem to be very common on GB and other auction forums too!
Finding all these "T47" serial numbers just strikes me as strange.
Thanks,
Mike

I know of one other Jap rifle that is S/N 08628RT146 - which is, I guess, is a 1976 Jap ATD rifle.
Mike, the 1974 ATD's were made by FN in Belgium, I believe.
Hello Mike - I have had some difficulties understanding the Browning "system" as well, but the Belgian guns are as problematic as the Japs. I have a 22 Japanese ATD - it was bought right here on GunBroker - it is S/N 04828PW146 - the number "146" means Grade I ATD - the "PW" is the year code, 1984 - "04828" is the number in the series for that year.

timbroman,
These sure can be confusing rifles. All three of the guys I have been speaking with about these rifles say they are Miroku's, ie. made in Japan.
But none of them can shed any light on why there are so many T47s.
I'm sure somebody here knows the answer. I just hope they see this post.
