i have an ithaca 37 12 gauge from the 70's, serial # over 855,000. took a chance and bought an extra barrel without a serial number at a gun show for $60. doesn't quite fi, interrupted threads don't quite line up for it to twist into place. someone said this should be an easy job for a gunsmith to fix by shaving a little metal. anyone confirm or offer suggestions?

Verify, by measurement, the threads are identical. If they I think a little metal removal from the end of the barrel may fix the problem.

I never have seen a real 37 Ithaca without a serial number on the barrel.
But if it don't fit, it is one of the older models and needs to be tweaked to fit.
A little careful filing of the barrel threads will get it to work, just go slow and check for fit a lot.......

Ithaca 37's "real ones" made after 1963 and serial * 855,000 did not have the serial number on the barrel. Befroe that the barrel was fitted to a specific receiver and the barrel was stamped with the same number.

The Chinese also made a copy of this shotgun.
    Good luck with your project.

Barrel above 855,000 have grooves not threads so to speak. There is no angle to the grooves. It will also look to have a large band at the bottom. Some of the earlier interchangeable barrels do need just a little work to fit as well as if you had a newer interchangable barrel and tried to put it on an early interchangeable reciever.
