Is there a way to tell which barrel is going to fire? First time I shot it the bottom barrel went first.

Thanks!

I am looking at these but have seen that some shoot both barrels at once and was wandering if they are all like that or just some. I personaly want to be able to shoot one at a time but still have both barrels loaded thanks for the help

If any firearm fires more than one bullet per trigger pull, it's now a machinegun, with all the legal burdens that come with that designation.

I suppose it's possible to modify a derringer to fire both barrels at once, but I can't think of any reason why anybody would want to, other than as an engineering excercise. See above.

Answer-the guns shoot only one barrel at a time.
Under federal law, a gun that "doubles" is not considered a machinegun.

I believe that to be correct that it has to doouble thru one barrel to be classified as a machinegun. Otherwise these double trigger sidexsides that can be in advertantly discharged, MIGHT fall under the same category.

If you have seen any Cobra derringers that fire both barrels at once, they are either malfunctioning or have been altered. They are designed to fire one barrel at a time. As jhimco stated, "They are crap." They have an extremely hard trigger pull making it near impossible to hit anything you are aiming at. If you are looking to buy a better quality derringer, you might want to look into Bond Arms. http://www.bondarms.com/

If you are wanting a cheap .22 to fire snakeshot buy a used H&R .22-they hold more rounds, would be more accurate and you should be able to find one for around $125 and they do have small versions. If you have to have a derringer look at the Bond, American Derringer or an older High Standard--saw a ton of the High Standards at the last gun show and they were going for around $225.
