Do modern made Marlin 1895 CB .45-70 Gov. Octagon Barrel Rifles have any type of proof mark, stamp or other type of marking on the left side of the barrel just in front of the receiver?
Anyone else have this on their rifle?
Thank you.

This is not an exact answer to your question, since my gun is somewhat different than yours, but here goes:

    I have a Marlin "
    MODEL 1895 45-70 GOVT.
", as marked on the left side of the ROUND barrel, just in front of the rear sight.

Also marked on the left side of the barrel, immediately in front of the receiver, are the capital letters "JM" insside an oval.

I'm not sure how old my gun is without checking; maybe 80s or 90s(?).

My rifle is marked like yours except with MOD 1895CB CAL 45/70 GOVT on an octagon barrel and yeah I see it now that you mention it looks like the initials JM kind of on its side in an oval.
    Thanks, Wolf.
