This is the Nylon 66 I bought yesterday for $79 at a gun shop. It was terribly dirty throughout but cleaned up nicely. It was made in 1967. What is the name for this 66 in black with chrome cover and barrel?66-4030.jpg

I believe it is called an apache...and if you got it for 79 dollars and it is as good as it looks you got it for an excellent price.

    Apache ?

The black 66's w/o the chrome were "Black Diamonds"

quote:For those who wanted something even more unusual, in 1961 Remington introduced the Nylon 66 AB rifle with a black ("Apache Black") stock and chrome plated barrel and receiver cover. This was supposed to be the deluxe version of the Nylon 66, but most customers felt that the Mohawk brown version was actually more attractive, and it was certainly more practical for a hunting rifle. There was also a gallery special version, the Nylon 66 GS, set-up to run on .22 Short cartridges only.

The last variation, the Nylon 66 BD, was introduced in 1978 and came with the AB's black stock mated to a black barrel and receiver cover. The diamond inlays in the forearm were also black.

The diamonds don't show in this picture but they are white. The pistol grip just says Remington Nylon 66. There is no serial number. The barrel is chrome plated. So, this is an "Apache Black" model?

Shameless plug. (Also an added "feel real good 'bout what you paid")
I have a 66 over on the auction side with a high bid at $350.00, last time I checked. Granted it has the original box, hang tags, scope, etc. and is in near mint condition, but if I saw your 66 for that price I'd have grabbed it and smiled all the way home!

The Remington rifle you have pictured , with black stock and white diamonds and other trim..is in fact a Model 66 (AB) "APACHE BLACK"
    Approximately 220,00 were produced 1962-1983...

    Hello "TWalker"[:)]

I had a "Mohawk" that I sold at gun show. It was my drag it around in the truck .22 rifle. So it had a lot of "external" wear on it. I posted that fact in large type with the tag I had on the rifle. If I knew I could have cleaned it up and put it on GunBroker and got over $300 for it --- I certainly would have done so. It didn't last 15 minutes at the show. I had a price of $200 on it and it went like hot cakes.

All of the ramblings is to say you got a real buy --- you should have had a silly grin on your face all the way home.

    Best Regards[:p]

I would have bought it in a heart beat. I had two when I was a kid-A Mohawk and Appache. Great little guns. Dave

I have one that I bought new. It cost about $40. It's the only gun my wife likes to shoot. She calls it "The Plinker".
