Does a long rifle 50 cal percussion using a ball use the same amount of powder load as a non-long rifle?

If you have a rifle with a longer barrel but is the same caliber and both use a patched ball then what works for a shorter barrel should work for a longer barrel. . It is my belief that there were two reasons for long barrels #1 sight radius was longer and thought to be more accurate and #2 the black powder of 200 years ago was not as uniform as today when it came to GRADE F,FF,FFF,FFFF if the powder is very course it MAY take longer to burn and long barrels were needed. I think shorter barrels became popular because they were easier to handle in wagon travel or on horse-back. Powder also became better quality. Just my $.02
