What is the difference here?
I clicked a BIN on an auction, and THEN realized it read, "carbine" stock.

Not having seen the gun you describe, let me just offer the simple explanation:

A "standard" stock is a conventional-type stock that resembles what you would see on any other rifle. It is of fixed length, does not fold, collapse or is otherwise adjustable.

A "carbine" stock, to me, is a length-adjustable, collapsable stock that telescopes forward on itself from the longest extension to the rear of the receiver to various, shorter lengths. These generally have 4 or 6 positions.

Do not confuse the "carbine" stock with a side-folding or an under-folding stock, which retains it's length, but folds (usually breaking at the wrist) and locks into the folded position. The side folders generally break to the right and the under-folders fold down and lock up under the trigger group.

I trust this is the information you were looking for.

AR's equipped with the standard Colt style collapsible stock use a different receiver extension ('buffer tube'), buffer and spring.

Their design has been modified slightly over the years and depending upon the type their length is adjustable in up to six increments. From collapsed to fully extended, length of pull ranges from - if I remember correctly - 11.5 to 13.5 inches.
