Cody Museum detail

Hello: Does anyone (? Bert) know how much detail to expect from a Cody Museum letter about Winchester rifles? Do items such as sling swivels, tang sights, etc. always show up on the Cody letters? I have seen a number of rifles with these accessories that appear (and are advertised as) original, yet the Cody letter may only mention caliber, barrel length and date of receipt and shipment. Thank you very much in advance.

They give you whatever the factory ledger shows. Some clerks were lazy and others were detailed so it's the luck of the draw.

Gnerally speaking, special order features will be listed in the warehouse ledger entry (and the Cody factory letter), but not always. As Spider mentioned, there were occasions when the entries made in the ledger were not 100% complete.

That said, and in my experience, more often than not when you find a Winchester with a Lyman tang sight that is not listed on the letter, it was added after the fact, and the same thing applies to screw eyes for sling hooks.

As a side note, my daughter and her husband visited the museum today. They thought of me a) when they saw all the guns in cases. and b) when they saw a Savage 99. They were impressed.

You really need to make the trip yourself... I will be there from June 14th to the 27th.

Sure... we can go out and find one of the numerous prairie dog towns, and then pop a few of them with my 405 W.C.F. high-wall[}:)]

Yep... it was T.R.'s "Big Medicine" gun during his safari hunt in Africa. The Hornady 405 ammo I shoot in my rifle launchs a 300-grain JSP at nearly 2500 fps... it hits very hard at both ends[:0].
