CB CAPS

Can someone tell me what CB stands for in CB cap. What is the definition of CB cap. Do they have to be shorts? I recently was chewed out after selling some that Remington called CB EE caps but they were subsonic low noise longs.

CB is conical bullet. Usually very low power, available in short and long variations.

    CB Conical Bullet
    BB Bulleted Ball
Both are propelled by the priming compound only (no powder)

See #'s 10-13 in the top row of the following photo. #17 is a 22 Short and #18 is the Agulia SSS (Short Sub Sonic with it's 60gr bullet)

Iwannausername is correct: CB stands for Conical Ball. CB caps use very little powder or are simply fired by the force of the primer. They are used for short-distance target shooting and some people use them for indoor shooting in their basements due to their low velocity.

Remington makes "CBee" caps for pronunciation and trademark name purposes.

22 BB Cap (Bulleted Breech Cap) is a variety of .22 caliber rimfire ammunition. .22 BB cap and .22 CB refer to cartridges that are low velocity and project reduced noise. These rimfires closely resemble a .22 caliber air rifle in power and are often used for indoor shooting and close range pest control. Developed for indoor shooting galleries with special "gallery guns", the .22 BB Cap was the first rimfire cartridge, dating back to 1845. It has no separate propellant charge, relying on the impulse created by the primer alone to fire a round lead ball. This results in a low muzzle velocity of around 700 ft/s (210 m/s) or less. More common is the .22 CB ammunition, which fires a slightly heavier conical bullet and is available in a variety of cartridge lengths.

I love CB caps for backyard shooting. I use the shorts in my revolvers and the longs in my lever guns and pumps as the shorts will jam. They're great for shooting up all of those free America Online CD's I've accumulated over the years! [:D]

Just to add a bit to the good info already given- CCI markets a "CB Long". These have the dimensions of a long rifle case (to feed thru a repeater) but the very light powder charge of a CB Cap. They are extremely quiet when fired from a rifle, but will not cycle most autoloaders. For a close up view of one CB cap, google 22 CB wikipedia. I do have some European 22 BB caps that actually fire a round ball using primer only- IIRC, they are RMS.

Wal-Mart only carries the CCI CB shorts but the longs are hard to find in my area.

The Aguila Colibri (that's latin for "hummingbird") rounds are also something along these lines.

They are primer only and use a lightweight bullet with a hollow skirted base something like a large airgun pellet fired out of an ordinary .22LR case.

Great rounds for shooting in places where you probably aren't supposed to. [}:)][:p]

These rounds are totally silent out of a rifle. . .sounds just like a dry fire.

From a pistol, they'll make a bit of a "crack", though they're much quieter than any subsonic or other normal ammo.

In me experience, the Aguila Colibri rounds are quieter than the CCI CB longs, though they are also both less powerful and less accurate.

I wouldn't use them for hunting anything, but they're good for tin cans and such.

i shoot both the colibri and the cci cb longs and bean is correct on the noise level. the only criticism i might add is i do notice they tend to ricoshay more than you would expect so as always be careful of this.
