I am going to purchase a Saiga 308 with 21 in barrell. Any ideas on the wood vs plastic stocks as to cost or does one shoot better? Also some of the sights seem to be graduated up to 330 m and some to 800m I believe, is one a better rifle or is it just a different sight? I will probably change the sights anyway to something optical or maybe a mojo sight.

If you want the best shooter the wood stocked version has the heavier barrel between the two.. It will weight about 9 pounds though.

AK sights arent that great... But there are aftermarket peep sights that tension onto the rear of the receiver which are much better then the original sights..

there is a scope mounting bracket on the left side of the the receiver for mounting com block scopes or mounts. Look at the posp thread and follow the link to kalinka to get an Idea of the mounts and scopes available.

bear in mind that the scopes with scale range finders and calibrations are set up for either the 7.62x54R or 7.62x39 russian rounds, not the american 7.62x51mm/.308win.

There are mil dot versions, and one of those would my suggestion if you decide to go with a POSP.

I believe the side rail bracket on siaga rifles are made for the AK.

I would go with the shorter barrel poly stock 308. Years ago I stored a wood stock long barrel EAA 308 Saiga, in my safe, for a friend. Seemed like a real beast in weight compared to the carbines that are out today.
