1911 Colt carried in ww2 by ??

I recently aquired a 1913 Colt with the serial number range of C99,000.Inside the grips are two names ( one on each side) under one name is an 8 digit number starting with 0. If this is an Army service number can i trace it somehow? I googled both names but got nothing.I wiuld love to know who carried this comerical 45. thanks

I am no expert on military service numbers but an eight digit number preceded by an O prefix should be the number assigned to an officer of the regular army. There may be an on line data base where you can check these numbers but if not you can probably find them by using the Freedom Of Information Act. I don't believe that service numbers are considered to be protected information and unlike a SS or Tax Payer ID number you should be able to see who the number belonged to.

sounds like a commercial colt maybe owned and taken over seas in WW1

Of course it could have been carried overseas and it just as well might have been owned and carried by an officer who never went OCONUS.

According to the guy I purchased it from, was told when he bought it many years ago that the two names scratched in the inside of the grips are the soldiers who carried it in WW1 and WW2.I'm just trying to verify that info.It makes for interesting research.
