I just read the the topic below on Air Guaged barrels. What do you get out of a better barrel? I understand a better barrel and more accurate, but what does that equate to? In other words what would my Model 70 ( pre 64 270) do with one that it doesnt do now? Or my Model 94 30 30? Or my M1A?

Thanks for looking and responding. I really am iterested. I do know that the Pre 64s have some challenges with the ring in the Barrel and that the screw in the forearm can be an issues as well.

A lot depends on what your needs are, what the origional barrel is doing, how well a given type of ammo preforms in that barrel, the ability of the shooter to utilize any improvements, the rigidity/repeatability of the platform itself, and the real big one, the quality of the gunsmith doing the work.
The biggest "thing" you get out of a premimum barrel (or any component) is confidance and consistancy (shot to shot).

Your M-94 (just to pick on it for a moment) is what it is, it will never be a winning BR gun, regardless of what barrel you stick on it, but, by the same token a top BR gun would choke and jam on just a little bit of the "swamp soil" that a M-94 shrugs off and keeps on going.

Kind of like the old race car saying (speed costs money, how fast do you want to go), accuracy costs money, how accurate do you want to be?
