Winchester 97 Trench Gun Bayo..PICTURES ADDED

OK The pictures are now attached. The bayonet actually appears better in person. The camera caught more than I see with the naked eye.

I have a model 97 trench gun and have acquired a Remington 1917 bayonet for it. The bayonet is in great shape, including the scabard/sheath. My main question is this: What is the correct bayonet for this 1942 production Winchester?

I have looked at a variety of websites and have found that both Winchester and Remington produced bayonets for this particular model, but were they both produced specifically for this model?

The bayonet in question is the Model M1917 which was produced for use with the Enfield Rifle but also utilized for shotguns. With the exception of a very small run (under 10,000) of bayonets produced during the Vietnam War, no additional Model 1917 bayonets were produced after WWI and all shotguns issued utilized these early production bayonets. Due to the fact that bayonets were not produced after the close of WWI a Winchester shotgun issued during WWII could have a Winchester or Remington production bayonet, it all depended what was sitting in the depot at the time. Although a plastic scabbard was developed during WWII it was common to have the older leather scabbard issued with WWII guns until supplies of that early type were totally depleted.

That's a beautiful example of a Remington 1917 bayonet and it is absolutely right for your M97 trenchgun. I hope the shotgun is as nice as the bayo!

Validator, Thanks for the information. I have pictures posted of the trench gun in a previous topic. It's in well used, but still good condition, as are most of this model due to "hard use". See below:
