need advice ~ VZ24 w/ receiver cut for scope mount

I found a VZ24 at my dealer with a very nice and solid action. Though the large ring on the front of the receiver and the area just in front of were the bolt handle is, is cut out for a scope mount. It looks to be very well machined, not a hack job.
1) because of the metal being removed would this still make a good action for a project where the caliber would have higher pressure than 8mm?
2) how difficult would it be to find an original style scope mount?
3) if not an original style mount, then what other choices do I have?
Thanx,
GL.

I'll answer #2 first. Very difficult.
#1-I've seen a few Mausers cut like what you are describing
and if done properly, without too much metal removal, they
should be ok. Since I have not seen the one you are talking
about there is no way for me to know.
#3 Personally with the difficulty in finding the original
style mounts, I would not buy this rifle. Always remember,
play it safe!
Hope this helps and good luck,

I would never consider a receiver that has been altered.
You advise that it was very well machined. Pls take in count the fact that the metallury may have changed with the machining. You do not know if the material that was removed on the receiver was subjected to excess heat, etc. As in a swiss cheesed receiver... 101
