Anybody shoot one of these? What is the best thing about it? What's the Worst? Am thinking about a purchase of an AK type in this cartridge. Any info on these is appreciated. Have a Norinco 84S-1 in mind. Anybody got one of these they shoot? Thanks in advance!

I had one & it worked fine. The only reason I sold it was I would have soon had to deal with the Kalifornia assult weapons law.
At that time the magazines were more expensive. I haven't had to price them lately but I would expect that the magazine supply problem is far worse now. Even then I sold them for quite a bit more than I paid.

Yes, I have looked at the magazine problem. There was four of them, 30 rounders, in a mag pouch for a starting bid of $60 and a "Buy-It-Now" for $64.99. These were the cheapest I've found........and a few for upwards of $30 each for 30 rounders......and not many advertised for sale at all! Gun has 7 of the 30 Round Mags with it so it isn't critical to get more immediately. Their scarcity seems more of a problem than the present price, but its definitely time to make sure you have enough! Thanks!

Anyone else know about these guns? Let me know! Thanks again!

I have a Norinco, stamped receiver and it has never failed to function. Have quite a few mags for it some of which won't fit. Seems there are some receivers that have a wider opening than others. So if you buy extra mags it may be a good idea to try them for fit first.

Paul, How goes it? I purchased a few Uzi parts from you many moons ago. As far as mags go there seems to be a good supply although they are expensive compared to the same mag in 7.62x39.

There are always many in 223 FSBO at www.ak-47.net

I had a Norinco NHM-90. It was totally sweet, much nicer than the Romanians. Ammo is a bit more expensive but the recoil is greatly reduced compared to the 7.62x39.

I presently have 2 AK's in 223, both preban. Had 'em for 15 years or so. One is an underfolder--the other fixed stock. Both are Norincos. Also have a basket of mags for them.

When I was a dealer, I sold hundreds of AK's...including a few to the Branch Dividians (my claim to fame).

The quirk in magazines someone mentioned is this: Early on, Polytech made a very few AK's in .223 caliber. And for some reason, they made a unique magazine for it--the Polyteck .223 mag would not fit the .223 Norinco gun, and visa versa. People would buy Polyteck AK's and find extra magazines extremely hard to get, even back when they were not banned. So that is the thing you have to watch for. If you buy a .223 AK, don't buy the Polyteck unless it comes with all the mags you think you will ever want.

My humble suggestion and 2.5-cents worth,
    Rafter-S

edit after the first post: Clays--the mags you have that won't fit your Norinco are the Polytecks. They are extremely rare...and valuable to the right guy. Don't sell them cheap.

I've got two AK-47 .223 rifles as well. Both are pre-ban Norinco models. I can vouch for what Rafter said about the Polytech mags being different than the Norinco mags. Awhile ago I met a gentleman with a Polytech AK-47 .223 underfolder who was having a difficult time locating extra mags for his rifle. The .223 AK variants are great, the only thing is that sometimes certain parts are difficult to come by.

Thanks for that information I was unaware of their differences. Perhaps I will run across someone who needs this type.
