glancing at a friends 300 lazzoroni cartridge compared to a 300 ultra cartridge, I didnt see that much obvious difference in case capacity as I wasnt interested at the moment..now i am interested in a hot 7mm and looking at the factory ballistics the firebird claims about 300 fps over the ultra in these 7mm's...is this reality or does handloading narrow the gap considerably ? Anybody have any experience with the 7.21 firebird in the sako rifles ? I know you have to pay through the nose for these dies and their brass and was wondering if you really get that kind of performance...

lazzoroni really did his homework in developing his cartridges so i would think if would be safe to assume that whatever he says the factory ballistics are is very close. just my opinion of course

you might also consider the 7 mm stw it is very fast and wouldn't be quite as costly as the other two you mentioned

i have my reserve on the lazzeroni line, if my memory isnt failing me they are loaded to very high pressure much like the the short mags i see everyone raving about [V]
60,000+ is hot and life expectancy has to be short, primers pockets have to swell.
i have been reloading the 30-378 near maximum loads & have gotten 4 reloads so far out of the brass.
although not as high a pressure i am told throat life in these type rifles start eroading in as little as 75 rounds.
    Good luck

Just to throw a little more additives to the pot and stir - how about a 7mm Dakota? Another proprietary round, but has velocities between the 7 Weatherby and the 7 STW, with loaded ammo available from the mfgr or Graf & Sons and Midway. Is built on the .404 Jeffry case. I have a customized Ruger M77 (tang safety) in this chamering and am well satisfied with accuracy and velocity.

    Keep off the Ridgeline
