police positive help dating

I have a police positive in 38 spec that has serial number 3435xx and an IPDno.10 on the butt. The last date on the barrel is the July of 1905. I thought this was first issue date according to blue book (1907-1927) but the serial number is showing a 1931 mfg date. Could someone have just switched barrels?
Thanks for the help,
James

At this late date, over 70 years after the revolver was manufactured, it's questionable if any source would be completely accurate.
Years ago when I still owned a copy of "The Book of Colt Firearms" it was the bible as far as DOM's was concerned.
