I have a S&W pre-mod 29 5 screw. I have been told it is in approximately 75% condition. Just wanted to get an idea of what it would go for. I am planning on listing it.

The pre-model 29's have increased in value significantly. The Blue Books lists them at about $2700.00 in 75% cond.

If yours has a 4" barrel, then even more since the 4" is much more scarce than the 6 1/2".

The value may also vary depending on what part of the country your in. I have seen this model go for much less at auctions.

Bluesteel: This is 95%+ finish. Does yours have more, or less finish than this pre-29? And thanks, Lefty. You made my day. SerNo is S149367: DOB? (I think it is first year production). Joe

    EDIT:
Thanks, LL. First handgun I ever bought. In NYC, no less. Joe

Joe.... Your S149367 was made in 1956, just before they began using model numbers. It is a first year production gun.

The .44 mag was formally introduced to the public on Jan 19,1956. The very first .44 was ser # S130927 was completed on Dec 15, 1955.

Those very early Smith .44's were some of the nicest guns Smith has made IMO.

Then later on came Dirty Harry.... and the rest is history.
