10-22 issues

I'm sure I'm not the first to post about this on here, but I'm having problems with my 10-22s.

specifically, mine (which I got new) won't fire every time. It just won't set some bullets off no matter what. brand and age don't seem to matter. It still sounds like it's getting a solid strike with the firing pin, but regularly enough it won't ignite the round. It's been doing this for some time. I took it to the gunsmith and he cleaned it up and looked it over and gave it a clean bill of health, but seemingly to no avail. Now then, i've had mine for years and years and I've put I don't know how many thousands of rounds through it (50,000?). Suggestions?

The second one (recently acquired used that I got for my mother) is doing much the same, but also having ejection issues. It stovepipes the cases and mashes them up in addition to not feeding properly sometimes.

WTH?

I would try swaping some of the parts around between the two rifles and see what happens. I think you may have a week return spring, light hammer strike or worn firing pin. The second rifle most likley has a worn or broken extractor.

I would replace the charging handle/recoil spring assembly, the firing pin and at least on your moms the extractor. Cheap parts. I have a 10/22 that has many many thousands of rounds through it. I started having the same problems and replacing these parts fixed it like new. I bought these parts through Brownells using factory parts except the extractor which is a Volquartsen.

send it to ruger life time "FREE" warratny,

Mine was a AC556 total rebuild springs, levers with new barel, connecting rod and bolt.
Orginal problem 1/2 worn barrells, not coverd, Geez wounder why[}:)]

Took 5-6 weeks, My upgrade of non failed parts barrell & cusssstom parts added was $225.

Your cost maybe $50 tops, if not total coverage.

I got rid of my brand new 10/22 for the same reason. I probably won't ever buy one again (Ha! we'll see about that...). I got the good word from so many people, but every 10/22 I've associated myself with has more problems than any of my other .22's. I think I'll stick with the old Winchester mod. 74
