Sorry about the first post...poorly worded.

My CO is retiring and we decided to give him a Tommy Gun to add to his collection. He will use it as a plinker (he has a safe full of guns and 50+ acres in the mountains). We will avoid the short version...any other considerations when we purchase this for a man retiring to Colorado?

Planned on getting the Auto Ordnance A1 version with 16.5" barrel, 50 rd drum, and a 30 rd stick.

The old threads are limited. Any thoughts on expected accuracy? Reliability?

If you ever get the chance to shoot one that is legal, and fully auto, do so. They are a riot. I shot one at the machinegun shoot in kentucky my first time there. Done it every year since.

Full auto...one of the ten things on my "To do before I die" list.

He has a gun for every sport, but I figure he needs a gun "just because". I'm hoping he will invite the boys over for an afternoon shoot fest.

The guns seem somewhat scarce...is it beacuse there's few out there...or because few part with them?

I think it is because there is few who part with them, along with production numbers. Every one is scrambling with the up coming elections, in hopes if it goes bad, hoping what they already have will be grandfathered in. If you guys go over for a shootfest, make sure you take atleast a couple cases of ammo. Perhaps if your department has any 45's you could write it off as a training session.....

I have the 28-a1 deluxe version, and it is a blast to shoot. The thing is a ton of fun, and bump firing (from the shoulder of course) is a blast. Mine is far more accurate than I expected, but they weigh a ton [:D]
