If you are asking to swap barrels for a 300 Win Mag? If so, there are a couple things you might need to know. The Varmint model I believe is a Short action. That in itself will render your rifle into a single shot. Also it will need either a new bolt fitted, or the current one opened up to accept the Magnum Head size. On the other hand, there is the 300WSM, of which you would only need to do the latter, and address feeding problems that WILL surface.

If I'm looking at your question right, your wanting to put a custom barrel on your Model 70, and a BOSS break on the new barrel, a 30-06 or a 300 win mag should be the same thing as far as the BOSS itself... assuming your going with a 30 caliber.........

mrbruce, you got it,I want to swap factory .308 sporter varmint barrel with a Rock 5R .308 ,24",1 in 11.25" barrel and hang a BOSS break on the end. Ive shot one of the Rem mod 700 mil-spec jobs with the Mike Rock 5R barrels, with the 175gr SMK pills it was a super tack driving out of the box gun but Im true blue Winchester love the one hole! very best

    cattle buyer,

We have a member, blacarrow, who worked on the BOSS as part of his job. You might want to contact him to see if he will jump in on this thread:
