am new to the whole M1A thing. I am being offered a 1989 M1-A With walnut stock ( cut out for a selector swwitch?) Barrel is H &R most parts that I can see incl. trigger group are TRW (? whatever that is?) , There is a funny looking thing over the flash hider that looks like muzzle break device that goes over tha muzzle break ( Never seen anything like this) The rifle is about 99-98% with original box . Can You tell me what I am looking at? Value? Etc. Thank You . PS. The mag that the rifle comes with is a weird looking one in green with idf marking ( ? )

We can't tell you what you are looking at because we can't SEE what you're looking at; photos of the rifle & box label would be a big help.

But, I CAN tell that about 10 years ago SA Inc imported a small quantity of M1A sniper rifles that they had made for the Israeli Defense Force (IDF). Does the wear & modifications look like it could be one of these? IIRC, these sold for around $2K at the time.

On the other hand, if it's just an ordinary "service grade" SA Inc with all USGI parts, I would think $1,500 would be a fair price.

No , this is not an IDF gun. The more I look at it , it looks like a Walnut stocked 1989 GI parts gun. 1500.00 being a fair price , are they much more desireable than the current production ones? The seller claims that they are MUCH more wanted than the new m1A's ( ?) Any truth to that?

Yes, he's right, the older guns with all USGI parts are more desirable. USGI parts have dried up, & SA Inc now uses many newly manufactured cast small parts which are NOT as durable as forged MILSPEC USGI parts. Of course, not everyone knows this, so it's not uncommon to pick up an older SA Inc at a bargain price. Your problem is that the seller is knowledgeable.

Don't take my word for it. Check out the SOLD listings on GB.

The seller wants a total of 1500.00 for the gun. He is also including a device that looks liek a muzzle break that is designed to go ove the flashhider which he claims is an m14 part (?) The stock has a cut out for a slector and is made from a dark redish walnut. Barrel , trigger group and the rest of the parts are stamped TRW or H&R.

If it's a cylinder with several rows of holes, then it's a muzzle stabilizer. USGI stabilizers are selling for $60, repros about $40.

You can get a selector cutout filler piece, although I can't tell who sells them now.

All in all, considering you got to look at the rifle in the flesh before buying, & don't have to pay shipping & an FFL fee, it sounds like a good rifle at a fair price.

Yes. Rifles is minty in the box. The total investment I will have to make is 1500.00. I think I am going to get it.

One thing I noticed about your comments are that the stock has the cut out for a selector, Springfield as far as I know never made this stock and may be a GI stock. Does it have Springfield Armory on the heal of the receiver with their serial number, I know you topic heading reads Springfield, just checking there are a lot of kit rifles out there.
