9mm Carb

Might be a stupid question but it's new to me. I picked up some loose ammo at a local gun shop and a couple of the rounds are marked "IMI 9mm Carb". I thought the IMI is Isreali Military Industries but I've never seen a 9mm Carb before. It looks dimensionally identical to a 9mm Luger but then I started to wonder if they loaded it hotter for use in a rifle. Or, do the Israelis hate the Germans so much they refuse to use the word Luger? Or is it just a 9mm round on the Atkins Low Carbohydrate diet ?[:D]

Appreciate the assistance.

Some of the Israeli 9mm is very hot sub machinegun ammo. This is loaded to +P+ pressures. It is too hot to use in a handgun for extended periods. A lot of this stuff also had corrosive primers. Be careful buying ammo loose with no way to know the particulars of it. You may be fine, or you may not. If only "a couple" of the rounds were marked like this you may want to consider not using them in a pistol. Shoot them in a carbine or give them to someone with a sub gun.

Thanks, I had already tossed them in the "What the Heck" box along with the 218 Bee, 30-40 Krag, 32 Rem, and such.

I do inspect each round carefully and don't knowingly shoot other peoples reloads but these 9 mm Carbs were new to me.
