CETME Firing Problem

Just got a used CETME rifle- upon firing it I had some problems with it firing two rounds at the same time. And a couple times where I inserted a new mag and pulled the charging handle back and it did not fire- only a click sound. Do you guys agree that I may need to replace the fring pin or the firing pin spring?

Not sure about the double tap, but when you are charging it be sure that you aren't babying the action forward - pull all the way back and let it fly on its own.

It was not a double- tap- it was automatic. And yes I let the charging handle go back on it's own- just like an AR, AK, SKS-etc.

Your problem is expressed too vaguely to give a decent diagnosis.

I'm assuming it's a Century abortion CETME, which means that any one of a couple dozen things could be wrong with it.

The one I have here that I'm putting the finishing touches on, had bad headspace, broken firing pin, back of the bolt ground to achieve "correct" headspace and the front sight off by 4degrees.

Sounds like a firing pin problem for how you describe it. But without examining it, too hard to say. Double firing is usually a bolt bounce issue, but if it fails to fire afterwards you could have got a stuck firing pin that broke off afterwards.

Firing pin is intact and so is the spring. But the rifle was very dirty and I noticed some minor "abrasion" on the firing pin body. I ordered a new firing pin set anyways.

Those guns are designed to work fine when very dirty, your problem lies elsewhere, young Jedi.

remove the bolt and look at the back, does it look like it's been belt sanded? Not the carrier, the bolt.

Then reassemble and check headspace, use a set of automotive feeler guages. You should have between .008" and .018" gap between the rear of the bolt head and the front of the bolt carrier when measured through the magwell, empty chamber, in battery, no headspace guage needed.
