Could an 1895 Win SRC have come from the factory with a rifle(crescent) but rather than the carbine (with trapdoor) buttplate?

I've never seen a Model 95 carbine with a crescent buttplate and I've only seen a picture of one with a shotgun buttplate. Since Winchester accepted orders for other than standard configurations it is conceivable that someone could have special ordered it that way, but you would have to carefully examine the gun's buttstock for fit and any irregularities to determine if it was original.

If you can't feel the music; it's only pink noise!

Short answer... Yes. How likely is it... not very. It would have been a rare special order option, but not completely unheard of. I have seen a fair number of Model 1892 and 1894 SRCs with factory installed "Rifle" butt stocks.

    Hello Mike,

Most of them I have seen actually letter with the "Rifle Butt". They are listed in the records as "Carbine", and in the Remarks section of the ledger, "Rifle Butt" is written.

Undoubtedly there are others out there that were converted from a Sporting Rifle to a quasi Carbine, but those will not have a saddle ring (which is the defining feature).
