My grandfather passed me down a 250-3000 savage Model 1899 the serial number i believe (the number in front of the lever action on the bootom of the rifle?) is 180700. Looked it up in auctions here and found one almost identical but in very poor condition compaired to mine going for $1300.00? Would like to find the value of mine anyone out there an expert in these? email me at bill_johnson1985@hotmail.com or respond here

I AM NO SAVAGE EXPERT BUT I COME UP WITH A LATE 1916 BUILD DATE AND AT 100% $900.00 Without seeing the gun and getting more information on markings etc. I would say if it has been fired and used it is a $500.00 gun. This is just an opinion and not fact...Pat

The only true value of your rifle can be determined by you. However, the auction side is about the best indicator of what people are willing to pay for things. The auctions can be searched for past and present. It is an indicator that more rapidly adjusts than any hardbound(the blue book) out there. For that reason, the blue book, and many other publications listing values are off...sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. If you could post some very clear pictures(there is a sticky at the top of the "Ask the Experts" forum describing the procedure), there are many experts, and collectors who would help you with a very close ball park.

I agree with the above posters, tho with the additional, the 99 seems to have a price that is influenced somewhat by regions, also the game and type of hunting in that area. They do seem to be appreciating in value, especially over the the last two or three years. Gun shows here in the midwest have seen the values for a nice, original condition come up $100 to $250. They were truly a design well ahead of their time.

    straightsavage,

I know some of us find the prices a little hard to believe but the rifle being sold on auction is this one:

At nearly two grand I think your days of finding the ol' .250-3000 laying around in a back rack at some gun store are gone. Collectors are all over them. Great rifle and great round by the way. Not as much punch as the .257 or the 25-06 but all that is needed with a .25 cal bullet.

I will say if your rifle is in better condition that the one on auction it will go for as much as $2500. That is what I would insure it for anyway....I wouldn't sell it for that.
