H&R 632

Hello,

The H&R 632 appears to come in two models marked .32 S&W and .32 S&W Long. However, Numrich only lists a single cylinder for this pistol. Does anyone know if an H&R 632 labled for .32 S&W would chamber and fire a .32 S&W Long cartridge? Or is the cylinder stepped to prevent the longer cartidge?. If it does fire both cartidges, and it seems to me that it might, why would H&R not lable their guns accordingly?

I have an H&R 632 serial # N2049 my question is why is the notch on the striker plate too small to use for loading. It appears to be for loading but would only allow a 22 cal and not a 32 cal cartridge to fit. Could this pistol have originally been a 22cal and someone refitted it with a 32 barrel and cylinder?

the H&R model 632 was introduce in 1952 (first model) and the catalogs up to about 1974 listed both the 32 S&W and the 32 S&W Long. starting about 1975 with the introduction of the M632 with transfer bar ignition system (second model) the only caliber listed is the 32 S&W Long, however these revolvers will still chamber and fire the shorter 32 S&W. the 32 S&W had lost most of its popularity by the mid 1970's with only a few ammo companies still manufactuing it (i know remington was still offering it in the 1980's). H&R simply dropped it from its catalog listing as even they considered it an obselete cartridge. i can think of no american 32 caliber revolver manufactured after wwII that would only chamber the 32 S&W. the day of the small frame 32 ended with wwII. even colt had dropped most of thier 32 Colt long and short chamberings in favor of cylinders that would accept the 32 S&W Long. believe it or not but the 32 S&W Long in the right handgun is a very accurate cartridge.

+1 on b,goforth's last statement. The 32S&W long is used in Olympic pistol shooting as well as N.R.A. Bulls-Eye shooting The target round is a hollow base FULL wadcutter loaded flush with the cartridge mouth. The 32H&R mag and the new 327 Mag can also shoot the 32S&W as well as THE 32 S&W LONG.

Thank you everyone for your help. I knew from a google search that b.goforth frequented this forum, and was hoping he would offer some help. I really appreciate your time and effort.

I own several .32 revolvers and am learning to reload for them. I am very interested in acquiring more, and your posts helped me understand the H&R situation. Also, I have a friend who had asked whether his 632 would shoot .32 S&W longs. Your response helped both of us. Thanks again.
