Ruger Old Model 44 Mag

I have a Ruger Old Model 44 Mag, 95% wear due to some holster blueing wear at end of the barrel, serial # 1488.
My question is how do I determine the manufacture date and value? Thanks, Mick

Is that a flat top black hawk with fluted cylinger, or an early super blackhawk?

    EDIT:
What barrel length, and does this have the wooden case with it?

Could we see some pictures? this is way to lustful without pictures...

Just to clarify, when you mention "95% wear" do you mean the gun is in "95%" condition as in near excellent or "95% worn out" as in really not so new condition? Personally, if it shot well I wouldn't mind either way, nice gun to have.

When I retired the Old Model, I took it to a gun shop for evaluation and they said it is 95 percent or better, small deduction for the blueing wear. Yes in excellent condition.

First year production was 1959, SNs 1-1490, Most early SBHs came with a mahogany case. There were long grip frame(fewer than 500) and short grip frame models. The long frame models have a "C" pressed into the wood on the inside of the grip panel, usually below the screw hole. Six or so KEY variations. Long story short. Very Nice Gun.

In 95+% condition, what $$s you could expect from a collector. YOUR SBH would be in the Mahogany cased variations. JMO, but I think these values are low for the very best examples.

You can call Ruger @ 603-863-3300, ask for records, give them the SN and they will tell you the ship date and any other information that is on the original invoice.

    Just my .02

SBH pricing guide is from the "RED EAGLE NEWS EXCHANGE" REFERENCE OF RUGER FIREARMS. 2007 version

I am considering selling my Rugar Old Model 44 Mag that we talked about. Never have sold anything on this media, any suggestions.

    Regards, Mick
