    Hi,

Sorry I don't know who made your cartridge. Part of the problem is I can't interpret the headstamp symbol.

My advice would be to post your photos at:

    http://www.cartridgecollectors.org/

Go to the Cartridge Collectors Forum and someone over there will let you know. You don't have to be a member to post a question and they are very willing to assist.

    Regards,

Do you have a copy of Punnett's book on 30-06's? I just picked it up, and think I noticed that cartridge in there. Unfortunatly I won't be near it for another 2 weeks now. I think Dave Call still has some autographed copies.
I also picked up a set of HWS at the same time.

    Hi Tailgunner,

I don't have Chris Punett's book. I agree it would be a good resource though is this case.

    Hope you are doing well.

Nope, it's a groove that was put in by the factory. These kinds of grooves often denote some type of special loading (dummy, blank, reduced power, special testing, etc), the question than becomes "what does it mean on a (comericial?) Barnaul round".

I've also found that it's a Russian round... and it's a civilian round.!! (Sold for hunting in Denmark!)

But I was wondering what the heck that depression was - and no, it's not a fault with the gun or case. It was consistent and found on more casings on a gunrange in Denmark.

All I've found is that it's a round that is made at :
    JSC Barnaul Machine Tool Plant
    Kulagina Str.
    Barnaul, Russia
    Russian Federation (1991 - ...)

And it's a round that is sold commercially.

But I guess it could be something relevant for hunting and practise/general use in the military.(FMJ surplus perhaps??)
(or that they had a run of cases that they wanted to get rid of when making some kind of huntinground.)

I know it's hard to know what type of projectile it would be - if they suddenly made a hunting round out of old casings.
