Slide release on magazine reload

On my USP40, while practice mag changes for IDPA, when I slammed a loaded magazine (snap caps) into the pistol, the slide released and loaded the top round.
When a magazine is loaded normally, the slide stays back until the slide stop is manually released.
This had never happened, even in competition. Am I being too rough in loading the mags now?
Should this happen? Should I sent it to HK for repair?
Thank you.

Some guns I've had over the years would do it to. I think if the slide catch in not caught very good in the notch, the jar of the mag slamming in knocks it loose.
Thats what i thought, it doesnt matter to me.
I teach firearms at a local police academy and we have recruits doing it frequently during their speed reloading drills.
Other brands of pistols will also do this, depends a lot on how much force is used when seating mags.
When you seat a mag by pounding the butt of the gun against your support hand, it causes the slide to move to the rear very slightly but enough to release the slide lever. Usually a round will be loaded from the mag, but sometimes not.
rsnyder..... No need to send your gun to the factory, there is nothing wrong with it.
Thats a pretty common occurance. Glocks will be it much of the time.

The glock has taught me great gun handling skills, now i handle any other of my guns, im very careful, its all about safety.
There are reasons your pistol wasn't designed to automatically release the slide when a mag is inserted. If other unexpected conditions develop you could end up with an unintentional discharge.
Designs vary, but generally speaking the condition you're experiencing indicates a weak slide lock spring or a slide locking lever that's either defective or worn. It's an easy and inexpensive fix that doesn't require return to the manufacturer or obtaining the services of a full-fledged gunsmith. It's a simple and quick parts replacement issue.
Speaking as an agency armorer, you need to get this fixed because you have a serious safety/liability issue on your hands.
