Need help identifying shotgun. It is a SXS hammerless and all it says anywhere on the gun is MONITOR on the side of the receiver. It has no sideplates the stock is broken and I would like to cross reference the gun. I looked at the Cresent line which made a Monitor but they all show sideplates on the receiver. Have no way of sending pictures and wouldn't know how if I could, as I am kind of a dinosaur on these modern machines. Thanks in advance for any info.

Shotgun book, lists "Monitor" as being a Trade Name used on Stevens shotguns, made for a hardware company. This would be between the wars.

the information i have on the "monitor" name is that it was owned by the "wholesaler/retailer" "paxton & gallager co. of omaha nebraska. shotguns manufactured by four of the leading single barrel brand name shotguns manufacturer have been seen marked with this name; stevens, iver johnson, cresent and H&R. only stevens and cresent seems to have supplied double barrel shotguns marked with the "monitor" name.

after cresent and N.R.Davis merged they did offer at least two box lock double barrel shotguns the cresent-davis model 600 and 900. with out seeing the gun it would be almost impossible to tell if it is one of the stevens models or one of the cresent-davis models. the time frame of between the two wars as supplied by rufe would be correct.
