Q's about Remington Bolt action rifles

I have a Rem. 7mm model 710. I want to get a sniper stlye stock for it and fix it up as a sniper weapon. (I know that it is not the most preferrable sniper round but I'm going with what I've got right now. I have been looking for an inexpensive Rem. 700 .308 unsuccessfully.)

My question is this: will the 710 model take a 700 model stock and accesories or do I have to look for a 710 stock and parts etc?

The 710 has the trigger guard molded to the stock . The 700's have a removeable trigger guard . I dont think they are interchangeable.

The caliber is not a problem as much as the idea of using the POS 710 for a sniper rifle....
Your pretty much stuck with what you have as far as available parts to do the conversion...

Best bet would be to save for a 700.

Well that sucks. What would be the best way to get rid of it? Online auction? Gun show? yard sale? Or should I keep it and just let it collect dust? (I shouldn't get another one until I sell this one... you know how wives work) Thanks for your help guys, I'm still somewhat new to the world of fine weaponry. I made the mistake of trading a berreta CX4 storm 40cal for an FA91. oops. Won't do that again.

get out of it what you can,...and don't look back. It was a BAD choice on remington's part to ever produce that rifle.

Auctions would be the best bet.

Auction or if you know someone who will trade you a fair trade.

    Thanks for your posts guys.

Can you recommend getting a Springfield M1A for a "sniper" weapon? Maybe starting with a standard and upgrading it over time... If I can get one used should I do that or not even mess with someone else's weapon and get a new one?

By the time you buy all the individual parts you could of paid for the M21 version which is already in a long range configuration. Go search for a used m21 probably find one slightly cheaper than new and that hasnt been shot a whole lot.

accuarcy at long range comes from bolt action rifles. Yes semi-auto's can be accurate,..but can't match a good bolt gun. Save for and purchase a remington 700. Buy a donor rifle in short action,..and have it trued and rebarreled, and you will have what you want.
