I have a old revolver that was a gift to my brother-in-law. It is a "Ruby extra" 6 shot in 38 Long CTG. It has a 4 inch barrel, grips of what look like black walnut with a round inlay near the tops that say Ruby. Several proofmarks that are a circle with a R inside and topped with what looks like flames. On the left side of the barrel above the caliber marking it says, GABILONDO & C<- ELGOIBAR (LSPANA On the other side of the barrel it says ACERO DE ALTA RESISTENCIA. On the bottom of the grip across the metal is the serial # which is 5312** and then says, Made in Spain. It is a double + single action. The gun is in very good shape and very tight thru out with about 75% blue remaining. Any information as to when it was made and what it might be worth is what I would like to find out. Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this for me.[:)]

There is not a lot of collector interest in these. The caliber makes it even less desireable.
Stoeger's imported the Ruby revolvers made by Gabilondo Co, after the War. I use to see them pictured in their Shooters Bible Catalogs, for years.
Like Bill said, a .38 Long Ruby in 75% condition, isn't going to be worth a heck of a lot.
Thanks,

Thanks to both of you. I didn't hold much hope that the gun was worth much. On another aspect, what is 38 Long? How does it differ from 38 Special?
Thanks,

The .38 Long is the predecessor of the .38 Special, it was originally a 19th Century Black Powder cartridge.
Don't push your luck by using .38 Special in yours. You can still buy .38 Long Colt ammo loaded with smokeless powder made for the cowboy action shooters.
