Rossi 7.62x39

Should this gun fire Wolf ammo? I purchased one new and it wont fire the wolf ammo. When I called Rossi they said that the rifle is not designed to shoot this ammo and doing so voids the warranty because the primers are harder and could break the firing pin. My gun puts an indent on the primer, but will not fire them. That stinks because the only reason i chose the caliber was because of the cheap ammo. There's a guy who is selling one on the auction side and he states that he zeroed it with 122g hollow point wolf ammo. I wonder if there's something wrong with my gun?

I think Rossi would know best.

Trade it in on SKS. [;)]

    or one of these:

I already have an SKS and a Mini-30 with a huge stock pile of ammo. Thats why I bought the Rossi in 7.62. I called Rossi and they said it wasn't designed to fire this ammo. I gues I'm SOL

I'm not sure WHAT Rossi guns were designed to do, except cause grief.

    Think about this:
Rossi builds a gun that is "designed" to fire the 7.62x39 AK/SKS round, a military round, right? Everyone on the planet familiar with guns knows that the the majority of ammo available in this caliber is Russian or Ex-Eastern-Bloc stuff. And, everyone knows that the days of the super cheap military surplus 7.62x39 ammo are gone and that factories are churning it out by the boatload for the commercial, non-military trade. Okay, I know that others make a brass-case, boxer primed, "reloadable" round. However we all know that it only makes up a tiny percentage of all the 7.62x39 that is used due to cost.
So, the big question is: What did Rossi build the gun to digest, only certain higer-end ammunition? BULLSHIP!!!!! They MUST KNOW that people are going to fire the "military" commercial ammo in their guns and for them to come up with this crap they told you is rediculous! My guess is that you'd have trouble with the gun no matter what you (try to) fire through it.

Do yourself a favor. Sell, give away or otherwise get rid of the Rossi and consider it a cheap lesson. Stay away from those South American guns like Rossi and Taurus. You will be miles ahead.

    Hi
I have a Rossi combo 223 Rem and 20 gauge. While the 223 does go bang, the accuracy is not nearly varmit hunting grade. Get a NEF if you want a single shot or if money is not limiting go for a Ruiger single shot or a bolt action. Good luck.

Had the same rifle, got the same answers from Rossi, not designed to shoot the hard primer military ammo. Sold it to a buddy, he replaced the firing pin or the spring and now 7 out of every 10 go bang. Rossi customer service is the worst in the industry. By the way, I bought an American made barrel from NEF in 7.62x39 and had the exact same problems, NEF was kind enough to allow me to return the barrel for a refund.

Well, I can tell by looking at my very same model that it is not going to be stressed or blow up by shooting Wolf Ammo, even is Wolf Ammo would be considered to be hotter than American commerical ammo. Luckily for me 99% of the Wolf fires with my Rossi. If it ever stops working so well, I will just put in a strong hammer spring and probably be done with that problem.

I couldn't get my Rossi to fire the Russian 7.62 ammo. It also would not fire my handloads 100%. Looks to me like the chamber is plenty deep. It is pretty accurate with 125 grain Nosler ballistic tips when they fire. I think it's sort of like a full time flinch detector.
