Hi, Experts. I have an Ithaca model 37 with serial number 63,805. I know with a 5 digit serial number it's gotts be an old timer, but how old? Anybody know how to get the date of manufacture for these guns? Thanks Jim

There are no military markings on it. As I understand it, the Ithaca Model 37 was introduced in 1937, thus the "37". I'm surprised that at serial number 63,805 it would have been made in 1943. That would mean they only made 63,000 in 6 years, or 10,000 a year. By comparison, Winchester must have made 60,000, or more, Model 12's a year. Anyway, thanks for the feedback! Jim

Model 12s sold alot better, supply and demand. Until 1963 they out sold all other slide action shotguns on the market. Good quality for a fair price, that was Winchester.
    For what it's worth.

A few months ago i picked up model 37 and was wondering the same thing. I emailed Ithaca my serial number and in a few days they replied with a date. My gun is 99 % and i was tickled to find it was produced in 1969. Its former owner knew how to care for a gun.

Hi, Experts. With a lead from "tonyRN" I contacted Ithaca @ www.ithacagun.com got a prompt reply. Yes, "yearofspider" is correct, serial number 63805 = made in 1943. Ithaca Gun Co. is now in Ohio, but whatever is left of them I wish them success. I love my old Model 37. Just wish it actually had been made in 1937. Jim
